silkkikuikka heavyweight cotton fabricfabric
The Silkkikuikka pattern on this unbleached heavyweight cotton fabric is printed in Helsinki.
This fabric was printed with natural indigo, a plant-based dye extracted from Finnish woad. The colour may fade a little during the first few washes and use.
“I was dancing with brushes,” said Maija Isola. In 1961, she spent many evenings and nights working in Marimekko’s print factory – painting in gentle, sweeping brushstrokes to the sway of music. Meter upon meter of new patterns emerged. On one of those nights, Silkkikuikka (great crested grebe), a pattern of alluring rhythm and simplicity, saw daylight.
